Brand Case Study #9
Jeep India will be unveiling the compass SUV in India on April 12th, 2017. The Compass will be the first Jeep product to be locally assembled at the FCA production facility in Ranjangaon, Pune. Hence, it is stated to be highly price competitive too.
For India, Jeep is expected to have an extensive line-up of models which will include a petrol, a diesel, an automatic and a 4x4 drive-train, all in the hopes of making an immediate impact in the segment.
The company is tight-lipped about the specifications of the Compass. But the news circulating in the auto industry indicates that the Multijet 2.0L Diesel engine (170Hp and 350Nm torque) and the 1.4L Multiair petrol engine (140Hp) will make its way in the Compass paired to a 9-Speed and 6-Speed auto box respectively. In true Jeep tradition, the 4x4 system with low ratio and traction management system for various terrains like sand, mud, rock etc will also be present in the top-spec model.
As far as the exterior styling goes, the Indian Compass will be nearly identical to the international version. However, to meet the taste of the Indian consumer, Jeep is likely to offer dual tone upholstery with plenty of metal and chrome finished trims. Higher variants are also expected to get leather upholstery, panoramic sunroof and locking differentials to give it true off-road credentials.
When launched, it will be directly in competition with models like the Hyundai Tucson and Honda CRV, but its 4x4 option will surely set it apart. It is likely to be competitively priced between 18-25 lakhs price range.
For Jeep enthusiasts, the company has launched a Microsite with a video teaser
