Brand News #2
People don't hate ads, in fact they love
to see ads now and then, but one thing for sure is that they hate bad
experiences.
If you can pay $11.99 for Hulu, $8 for
Netflix, $10 for YouTube, $15 for HBO and $4.99 for Spotify, you are ad-free.
Even Hotstar will give you ad-free service if you pay an additional Rs. 200
over the regular subscription amount.
Coming to devices and platforms, if you have an iPhone, AppleTV, or iPad,
you can be ad-free with the new iOS 11. Which means that the product that you searched a long time back in Amazon will no longer stalk you when you are on the internet browsing other pages.
Major English dailies like the New York Times and The Wall Street Journal
are already exploring ad-free digital subscriptions.
If this trend
continues, the ad industry is going to have a bigger problem. The imperative here is that, ads need to create better experiences. Which means ads need to be relevant, should not be interrupt the viewer experience and must add value.
I am really skeptical about the last part, but being a person from the advertising industry, I am hoping to see a break-through.
