Which gaming console are you?

Brand News #15

So whats so great about gaming consoles when compared to PC gaming? Well for one, they are much cheaper than an equally specked PC or Laptop. You can buy the latest Xbox from Microsoft or PlayStation from Sony for less than 30 grand. But a powerful gaming PC or Laptop would easily burn your pockets at 50 grand. Since your home already has a TV, you need not look further to find that perfect gaming monitor either and the game controllers come bundled with the consoles as well.

Lets have a look at the consoles in depth, which are available in India at the moment,

Nintendo Switch

Starting at Rs. 32, 900, the Switch by Nintendo is a one of a kind gaming console that comes with a 6.2 inch screen. Should you wish to go for the large screen experience, then, it can also be connected to the TV via the dock through an HDMI cable. From a hardcore gamer's perspective, the Switch is not as appealing as the other consoles in the market. But its flexibility surely makes up for its other limitations. Nintendo is also working with major game developers to bring new games to its platform too.

Sony PS 4 Pro

The most expensive of the lot at Rs. 39,000 is the Sony PS 4 Pro. The Pro is all about 4K experience. It supports gaming and movie playback in 4K HDR. Hence its more adept to future demands when compared to the PS 4 Slim. Powered by the AMD Raedon 4.2 GPU, the Pro is available in just one variant with 1 TB storage. It supports HMDI 2.0 too.

Microsoft Xbox One S

This updated version of the Xbox One is available with 500 GB and 1 TB storage options. The prices starts at Rs. 30,000 and is much smaller (about 40%) compared to the Xbox One. It supports 4K and HDMI 2.0. and allows up-scaling game to higher resolutions up to 3840 x 2160P. The device can be pre-ordered in India and will be available from October 5th.

PS 4 Slim

This is the slim version of Sony PS 4 which is equivalent to the Xbox slim. Apart from the smaller form factor, it is also power efficient and draws 165W lesser when compared to its big brother. All the PS 4 games are compatible with the Slim.

Given the choices, it is wise to go to the local digital store and have your fair share of trials before you buy one. Look out for Diwali discounts as well before you make the jump.

Back in the day, when I was into serious gaming, me and my friends used to spend hours trying to figure out the best combination of Graphics cards, RAM, CPU and motherboard that would give superior performance. The consoles have simplified that part and has a hassle free ownership experience. Most games are released on the consoles first and then makes it way to the PC. While the future of gaming rests with the consoles, the good old PC still has quite a few die hard fans.
