The Apple CarPlay system was introduced in the year 2014 with an aim of improving safer interactions with a smartphone while driving. Users can control CarPlay from the car's user interface or by using the voice assist button on the steering wheel that invokes Siri without losing your attention. In India, Mercedes, Hyundai, Ford and Maruti provides Apple CarPlay compatible systems in their range of vehicles. Car Play is supported by iPhone models 5 and later that runs iOS 7.1.

Apple CarPlay displays the iPhone's interface on the car's infotainment display and it can be controlled by the existing buttons in the car. Software is run on the phone and CarPlay just uses the display and hardware interface of the car's system to mirror the same.

As far Indian consumer's were concerned, Apple was supporting only Apple Maps for navigation, which does not really work in India. On the other hand, the rival, Android Auto supported Google Map's which is by far the better navigation system out there.

Well, Apple has been listening to its customers and in the recently concluded Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), they went on the announce that iOS 12 will support 3rd party navigation apps like Google Maps.

Apple is all about sentences that start with "end-to-end". End-to-end encryption, end-to-end control etc etc. But is Apple on the verge of a paradigm shift. I guess we will have to wait and watch.
