KIA Seltos - 3 top reasons to buy!

Kia Seltos

Kia Seltos Front Three Quarters

KIA has entered the Indian market with the Seltos, a B-SUV and has built a lot of buzz around it. But in a market that already has the 2nd Gen Creta, recently launched new Duster, the connected Hector, the Kicks and the deeply discounted Captur how can the Seltos make a dent?

Well here are 3 top reasons why the Seltos will do well from an enthusiasts perspective,

1. All-wheel disc brakes

Not generally noticed by many customers, those two additional rear disc brakes actually make a lot of difference and add to the dynamics and overall confidence while driving any car and especially an SUV. Folks who have driven the Creta would know what I mean by this. There is not enough stopping power with just a front disc brake set up, period!

And guess what, KIA has got red brake calipers!, sporty?, overkill? I find it snazzy and appealing though.

2. Premium Audio - 8 Speaker Bose system + 10" touchscreen

I am not a big fan of this and not a deal breaker for me. But for many who go for an instant audio and ICE upgrade this would be a relief and a lot of money saved. Certainly a unique feature then from KIA and not attempted by any in the class.

3. Exciting engine + transmission combination

Well KIA has gone wild with this one and it has got some 6 different combinations as below,

  • 1.5L diesel-MT - 20.8 km/l
  • 1.5L diesel-AT - 17.8 km/l
  • 1.5L petrol-MT - 16.4 km/l
  • 1.5L petrol-CVT - 16.3 km/l
  • 1.4L petrol-MT - 16.1 km/l
  • 1.4L petrol-DCT - 16.2 km/l

I haven't driven any of them yet but the 1.4 petrol 7DCT looks interesting. But I am disappointed at the same time since we wont be getting the 1.6L 7DCT version in India.

With 6000 bookings in a day, its fair enough to say that Seltos has got the attention of Indian community. Early days though and the slightly higher priced plus larger Hector is sold off for the year!.

But I wish Seltos does really well and that KIA brings the Stinger at a juicy price too :-)
